KTVU-TV videotapes St. Baldrick's fundraiser for its newscast

A KTVU-TV news crew videotapes volunteers shaving their heads in solidarity with young cancer patients at Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland. The event raised about $140,000 for childhood cancer research.

Jacob Neufeld, MD, of Pediatric Rehabilitation was interviewed by ABC 7 News (KGO-TV, Ch. 7) at a fundraising event for 10-year-old Christopher Rodriguez.  A benefit concert was held at Yoshi's in Jack London Square for Christopher who was shot by a stray bullet during a piano lesson in January. Please note: Media Relations has informed the station that Dr. Neufeld did not operate on Christopher as stated in its report. The family has created a website that updates his condition and has trust fund information: christopherrodriguez.blogspot.com

and Carolyn Hoppe, MD, of Hematology/Oncology and our patient, 6-year-old Alina Mendoza, are featured in this newspaper article about our new collaborative hematology/oncology clinic at St. Joseph's Regional Cancer Center in Stockton.  Drs. Hastings & Hoppe provide care to Stockton area sickle cell, thalassemia and cancer patients on the third Friday of each month.

Many of our young cancer survivors, physicians, staff, family & friends were featured in the news about  the St. Baldrick's fundraising event which raised about $140,000 for cancer research.  Congratulations to Caroline Hastings, MD, of our hematology/oncology department, her team, and patient mom, Lisa Baracker, for their instrumental role in organizing this fundraising event!  The story ran on KTVU-TV, NBC-11, Univision, KRON-TV and in the Oakland Tribune, Ming Pao Daily and Sing Tao News.

The staff in our current Walnut Creek office will be moving into this new facility. This specialty care center allows us to continue providing outpatient services to families in and around Walnut Creek.

Mindy Benson, PNP, of our Asthma Program was quoted in a report about the many challenges of managing asthma and the latest studies on the topic.  Mindy says our emergency room sees about 5,000 asthma cases a year and the primary-care clinic sees more than 2,500 patients.
