James Crawford, MD, Child Abuse and Neglect

Summary

James Crawford, MD is an expert on child abuse and neglect. He is one of only a few physicians in California trained as a fellow in child abuse and neglect, and one of only two forensic pediatricians in the Bay Area. In Alameda County alone, nearly 20,000 cases of child abuse are reported every year. Dr. Crawford is responsible for making sure these cases are evaluated and ensuring that the children he evaluates receive the physical and emotional care they need.

Compelling Fact

More than 3 million cases of child abuse and neglect were reported in the United States in 2003. Two-thousand children died in this country because of physical abuse.  Twenty-five-thousand cases of physical abuse, sexual abuse and neglect were reported in Alameda County in 2003.  The actual incident of child abuse and neglect is estimated to be 3 times greater than the number reported to authorities.
