Children’s Hospital Oakland’s Dr. Michael LeNoir Honored as One of Nation’s Leading Specialists in Asthma
June 27, 2008
Oakland, Calif.– Dr. Michael LeNoir, a board certified allergist and immunologist, and a member of the board of directors of Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland, has been recognized as the nation’s leading specialist in asthma and immunology in the May 2008 issue of Black Enterprise magazine. Dr. LeNoir was one of 140 African-American physicians recognized by the magazine for being at the forefront of advancing medicine within their respective fields.
Dr. Lenoir, a specialist in treating asthma in inner cities, is a top referrer to Children’s Hospital Oakland, which gets about 5,000 emergency room visits from kids with asthma every year. It’s the most common cause of an ER visit at Children’s. Alameda County and Children’s Hospital are lucky to have Dr. LeNoir here; the county’s hospitalization rate for asthma is among the highest in California.
This is not Dr. LeNoir’s first award for his work on asthma in urban centers. He was also named one of the 50 most positive physicians in America by the American Medical Association and as one of the nation’s Top 100 Black Physicians in the August 2001 Black Enterprise magazine. In 1998, he was also chosen Oakland’s Citizen of the Year. In 2008, Oakland Magazine included him in its list of the 66 best physicians in the San Francisco East Bay.
Dr. LeNoir also keeps busy as the host and producer of the Ethnic Health American Network, as CEO and medical director of the Bay Area Multicultural Clinical Research and Prevention Center, as president of the Ethnic Health Institute at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, as chair of the National Medical Association’s “Clear the Air” asthma project and as director of the Asthma Policy and Research for the Cobb Institute.
Dr. LeNoir is pleased to be a role model for community youth. “There are many people around the country working to improve outcomes in the African-American community; I appreciate this recognition,” said Dr. LeNoir.
