PATIENTS AT PLAY

Kids don't stop being kids just because they're staying in the hospital. At Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland, play areas are available for patients who are mobile and can get around.

Kids who must stay in their rooms may play with toys brought to them or ask for a visit from a Child Life specialist. To reach Child Life dial 3520.

Play areas
• Fifth floor playroom for kids
• Teen lounge and teen program on the fourth floor
• An art therapist on staff
• A playground and butterfly garden are available in the courtyard behind (south of) the main hospital.

School program
An accredited in-house school program serves all hospitalized school-age kids, from kindergarten through 12th grade. Taught by teachers from the Oakland Unified School District, the program features an full curriculum and a classroom with computers, books, art supplies and more.
