Children's Hospital Oakland
Residency Program

conferences

Teaching conferences at Children's Hospital Oakland are carefully crafted educational sessions designed to comprehensively cover the field of pediatric medicine during the three years of residency training. These conferences include:

  • Monday, Wednesday and Friday Morning Reports led by the chief residents, focusing on interesting patients admitted to the hospital
  • Grand Rounds every Tuesday morning, providing the most up-to-date information on a wide variety of topics directed to an audience of community practitioners and hospital staff
  • Case Management Conference on Thursday mornings where an individual case stimulates discussion among faculty and residents in an informal atmosphere
  • Noon Conferences daily which form a large part of the core curriculum of didactic teaching
  • A short talk most mornings for residents on primary care rotations, covering topics related to well-child care, anticipatory guidance and other primary care issues
  • Morning rounds on the inpatient services encouraging bedside teaching and focused discussion of patient management issues.
  • Other conferences, research seminars, journal clubs and special events occur within individual departments throughout the year. Staff make accommodations whenever possible to allow resident attendance at all conferences.
