The HEAL program has been selected as a beneficiary of the January 14, 2008 Help Raise Healthy Children gala. The gala is honoring Alice Waters and the Chez Panisse Foundation for their groundbreaking nutrition work in Berkeley public schools. Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL)

A ONE-STOP shop FOR WEIGHT MANAGEMENT

“The mission of the Healthy Eating, Active Living Program at Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland is to prevent and treat childhood obesity and it’s related chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure through culturally sensitive, individualized family care and community outreach leading to lifestyle modifications that include healthy eating, active living and self-motivation.”

The gold-standard of care for pediatric obesity
Established in July 2004, the HEAL clinic is a model pediatric overweight prevention and treatment program.

A comprehensive, culturally sensitive, multidisciplinary approach, based on the chronic-care model. Patients visit with:

  • Pediatric Gastroenterologist
  • Pediatrician
  • Pediatric Nurse Practitioner             
  • Specialists:             
    • Registered Dietitian
    • Exercise Physiologist
    • Psychologist

    Six to eight, one-on-one rotating visits with a team specialist*
    Regular visits every 2 to 4 weeks apart*
    Follow-up visits at 3 and 6 months*

    *Based on individual family plan and insurance coverage
