Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland has one of the most highly regarded anesthesiology teams in Northern California. Many pediatric surgeons prefer to work with our specially trained pediatric anesthesiologists.
At Children’s Hospital Oakland, anesthesiology care begins with a pre-operative visit to help children and their families familiarize themselves with the Surgery Center. This includes a meeting with a Child Life specialist who shows the patient, through child play and dolls, what to expect during her surgical procedure. This helps reduce fears of the unknown.
On the day of surgery, children fall asleep in cheerful, comfortable rooms, usually with their parents at their sides. After surgery, specialized post-operative pain management keeps kids comfortable so they can heal quickly.
Our medical and support staff speak a number of different European and Asian languages, reflecting the ethnic and cultural diversity in the Oakland community and allowing us to provide an extra level of care and assurance to patients and their families in critical and emergency situations.
We have outreach clinics in several communities in Northern California and Nevada so that patients who live outside Oakland can be served closer to home.
