Pediatric Cancer & Blood Diseases Clinic

Services:

The clinic provides consultation and general care including:

  • Transfusions and other medication infusion treatments
  • Chemotherapy

The Pediatric Cancer & Blood Diseases Clinic has an infusion center for extended day therapies, transfusions, and medication infusions. We also perform procedures such as spinal taps with chemotherapy, bone marrow aspirates, and biopsies. These procedures are done in the clinic with sedation and close observation.

There is also a Child Life specialist available in the clinic to prepare and support patients undergoing procedures in addition to providing therapeutic play and activities. She helps patients develop strategies as necessary to reduce anxiety while undergoing therapy for cancer or blood disease. She is also available to assist patients and their families in transitioning back and forth to school.

The Child Life specialist also participates in a monthly support group for patients, siblings and parents of children with cancer. As part of our healthcare team, the child life specialist helps us provide healthcare for your child and family that will be a positive experience in your child's emotional development.

Children who need highly specialized care are transferred to Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland. Every effort is made to provide as much care as close to home as possible, and if it is necessary to care for a patient in Oakland, to transition the patient back to the family’s community when local services are available.

We also admit patients for routine care at local hospitals in conjunction with the primary care physicians and pediatric hospitalists.
