Critical Care:
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

SERVICES

All medical or surgical problems presenting a risk of permanent disability or death, including:

• Direct patient care, including post-operative care

• Interfacility transport program

• Trauma care: Northern California's only designated Level I Pediatric Trauma Center

Patients benefit from the combined skills of our large, multi-disciplinary team of pediatric specialists. Some of our critical-care nurses and nurse specialists have been at Children's for 20 years or more, and take an active role in training more junior colleagues. Other members of the team include respiratory therapists, a nutritionist, a pharmacist, and two social workers dedicated exclusively to Critical Care. We share the services of Children's Hospital physical therapists, occupational therapists, chaplain, and child life workers. In addition to the ICU-dedicated staff, patients and their families can draw on the expertise of Children's subspecialists.
