Diagnostic Imaging/Radiology
The Diagnostic Imaging Department at Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland physicians, technologists, medical physicists and radiation safety professionals work together to assure the best diagnostic image quality while minimizing the exposure to radiation. Pediatric imaging specialists use the latest techniques and equipment—and just as important—you will have Children's experts interpreting the diagnostic imaging tests for your child.
Your physician may order an x-ray or CT scan, an MRI or an ultrasound. No matter which method is used, Children's Diagnostic Imaging specialists use only the safest, least invasive means to help physicians take care of your child from birth to age 18.
We understand that children are often anxious about procedures and we provide Child Life Services with this in mind. Certified Child Life specialists work with your child to prepare them and ease their stress. Child Life preparation reduces the need for sedation during MRIs and CT scans. If sedation or anesthesia is required for your child’s study, we work with the sedation/anesthesia imaging team to make the experience for you and your child as pleasant and safe as possible.
Hours
• For Emergency Department patients, Diagnostic Imaging services, including CT scan and ultrasound techniques, are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
• For non-emergency patients, CT scan, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, MRI and fluoroscopy services are available Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 4 PM.
Referral
A faxed referral is required for all scheduled and walk-in exams.
