THE ROLE OF THE FAMILY

Families can play an important role in their child’s hospital school experience. Parents can help by:

  1. Notifying their child's teacher and school nurse to let them know about a school absence or hospitalization.

  2. Sending assignments and textbooks with your child when hospitalization is planned. If the admission is unplanned, you can help make a smooth continuation of your child’s education by contacting the school for assigments.

  3. Encouraging communication between your child and his/her friends and teachers at the home school.  The computer lab located in the Hospital School classroom, helps maintain these important relationships.

  4. Allowing extra time for your child to complete school assignments during recuperation.
