Because epilepsy, developmental delay and behavioral concerns account for the most common issues in TSC patients, a developmental pediatrician and a neurologist with extensive TSC experience lead the initial evaluation and ongoing coordination of care. Depending on the specific needs of each patient, these specialists may refer the child to a variety of other professionals at Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland, including a cardiologist, dermatologist, nephrologist, neurosurgeon, dentist, ophthalmologist, pulmonologist and/or gastroenterologist designated as a TSC specialist.
