The Sports Medicine Center for Young Athletes is the first full-service sports medicine program in Northern California to work exclusively with young athletes.
- Because growing bones and cartilage are susceptible to injuries unlike those of a skeletally-mature athlete, young athletes must be managed differently from adults. When a young athlete is injured—misuse can lead to disabilities that extend into adulthood.
- Our pediatric sports medicine specialists have extensive knowledge and experience in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of sports-related injuries in children and adolescents. We offer young athletes the most current and comprehensive medical care and educational programming available.
In conjunction with the Plastic Surgery Department, our orthopaedic surgery specialists offer evaluation and treatment for specialized hand disorders in children from birth to age 18. Hand and microsurgery services include options for congenital anomalies, traumatic injuries, and reconstruction following burns.
Children’s Hospital Oakland is one of Northern California’s leading destinations for specialty pediatric spine care, innovative surgical techniques for young children with early-onset scoliosis, infantile scoliosis, and other deformities in the growing spine.
Skeletal Dysplasia conditions are rare and treatment requires the expertise of specialists from many disciplines. Children's Skeletal Dysplasia program is dedicated to the comprehensive medical care for infants, children, and young adults with various forms of skeletal disorders. Specialists from many disciplines come together to provide genetic evaluation, diagnosis, and counseling; orthopaedic screening and treatment for your child.
