About Children's Hospital Oakland
Welcome to Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland. We believe that access to the best healthcare possible is the birthright of every child. Staff at Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland take great pride in their hospital and research institute, and especially in the care they provide children who come here. Founded in 1912 by East Bay women's groups, the hospital maintains its original policy that no child is ever turned away because of inability to pay.
Because we're an independent, free-standing not-for-profit pediatric medical center, we're able to focus all our attention and all our staff on taking care of children.
- Children's is one of the busiest pediatric medical center between Los Angeles and Seattle with more than 200,000 outpatient visits a year.
- We are a state-designated referral center for high-risk newborns in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.
- Our physicians are specialists in over 30 pediatric sub-specialties.
- On average we serve 10,000 inpatient admissions yearly.

How We Reference the Hospital
Officially, the name is UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland. We don't use acronyms for public and external communications. If you are referencing the hospital in writing, in the first reference—write the full name. Following the full name, you can refer to it as Children's Hospital Oakland.

There is an ID Badge reader on the side of the driveway opposite the garage door. Community-based medical staff may also park on the north side of the hospital along 52nd Street.
The Doctor's Lounge is located down the hall from the cafeteria, between the Medical Staff Office Annex and the exit to the south parking lot. Use your ID Badge to enter. Inside there is a coffee machine, microwave, TV, and computer terminals for your use.
