Fellowship Program Compensation & Benefits

The Pediatric Infectious Diseases department at Children’s Hospital & Research
Center Oakland allows fellows to choose from one of CHRCO’s health and benefits plans at the time of their initial employment; thereafter, changes are allowed annually.

All fellows are provided a total of four weeks of vacation annually.

The following salary scale is in effect as of July 1, 2010:

  • 1st year fellows    Approximately $57,500
  • 2nd year fellows   Approximately $60,000, depending on source of funding
  • 3rd year fellows   Approximately $62,500, depending on source of funding

The current salary is reflected on the individual letter of appointment. The individual letter of appointment provided to each fellow upon employment states the approximate current salary. The first year salary is guaranteed by the Infectious Diseases Division. During the research years, the primary source of the fellow's salary is dependent on the fellow's mentor and any research grants received. Since the second and third year of funding are not guaranteed, during their first year, ID fellows are expected to apply for grant support to fund their research project during the subsequent two years.
