Past Fellows - Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program

Mikhaela Cielo, MD

Medical School: University of Southern California

Residency: Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland

Fellowship Research:
I participated in an NIH-funded multicenter prospective study related to group B streptococcus (GBS). For my project, I focused on the rates of maternal infection associated with GBS status in the current era of intrapartum chemoprophylaxis.

Impressions of Fellowship:
Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland is a one-of-a-kind place to do fellowship training. There is nowhere else nearby that provides such interesting cases and such a useful breadth of knowledge. As an ID consultant, you are not limited to esoteric cases of extremely rare infections in oncology patients. We see patients of all levels of acuity in all areas of the hospital and outpatient settings. Additionally, the teaching from the ID attendings is phenomenal. You will leave Children's Hospital with a huge variety of experiences and great foundation for any type of job that you decide to pursue afterward.
