The Teen cancer support group provides a safe place where teens and young adults can meet and
connect for support, education and hope, while dealing with a cancer diagnosis and survivorship.
There is no cost to join and dinner is provided! To join, you must meet the follow criteria:

  • Between the ages of 13-21
  • Have an Oncology diagnosis
  • Treated at Children's Hospital Oakland

Talia Holden, MA Psychology Practicum Student

The Psychology Oncology Program provides comprehensive and compassionate emotional care to children with cancer and their families. It is the only psychological support program of it's kind in the Bay Area.

TOUGH CUFF PROGRAM 2011-2012

Customized program for young athletes who play softball, baseball, or other “overhead” sports. Tough Cuff focuses on developing strength and conditioning to help prevent muscle strain and minimize the risk of injury when participating in sports.

(Enter through the Outpatient building to access to the center)

DATES:
Session I: High School athletes
Nov. 28–Dec. 23, 2011 (Mon, Wed, Fri, 7–8:15 p.m.)

Session II: Little League (10-14 years)
Jan. 2–27, 2012 (Mon, Wed, Fri, 7–8:15 p.m.)

FEE:

The Tough Cuff program includes:
• Learning the fundamentals of training all muscles groups involved in the movement patterns used by overhead athletes
• Learning the essentials of rotator cuff strengthening and scapular stabilization
• Strengthening all upper extremity and core muscle groups
• Dynamic warm-up exercises
• Static stretching program for quick recovery and relaxation

We measure your performance improvement with pre- and post-class measurements of:
• Pre- and post-class screening of functional movements
• Grip strength
• Rotator cuff strength
• Shoulder flexibility
• Core strength

Each session includes:
• 2 In-clinic group sessions each week with an optional third session
• Detailed instructions and exercise list for home follow-up

Taught by:
• Physical therapists
• Certified athletic trainers
• Certified strength and conditioning specialists
• Youth fitness specialists

A farmers market at Children’s? You can bet your green onions on it. Look for the booths every Tuesday on 52nd Street, under the Outpatient Center overhang.

An organic vegetable grower from Salinas, who grows everything from tomatoes and green onions to strawberries and lettuce is here providing exceptional farm-fresh organic produce. This grower is affiliated with the Agriculture and Land-Based Training Association (ALBA), who provides educational and business opportunities for farm workers and aspiring farmers to grow and sell crops grown on organic farms in Monterey County.
