The Division of Infectious Diseases at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland has expertise in a wide spectrum of bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic infections—from those that are common and mild to those that are complex and unusual or severe. Our infectious disease physicians specialize in solving diagnostic/clinical challenges and are devoted to the hands-on care of children with infection. We are one of the Bay Area's premier centers providing care for children with HIV and tuberculosis.

Infectious Disease Research and Education

  • Our infectious disease faculty includes not just our clinicians but also researchers at Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute. Together, we are involved in evaluating new treatments for infectious diseases in children as well as new vaccines to prevent infection and the complications of infection.
  • Our infectious disease physicians serve as a resource to community pediatricians, providing one-on-one guidance to them whenever challenging questions about pediatric infections arise. We also provide education about a variety of pediatric infectious diseases to practicing physicians and physicians-in-training through lectures and other educational programs.
