The Department of Otolaryngology (ENT) offers comprehensive diagnostic treatment services for children from birth to 18 years of age with ear, nose, throat, and laryngotracheal problems. As specialists in pediatric head and neck surgery, our expertise is comprehensive and encompasses all aspects of the field: pediatric head and neck surgical oncology, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, laryngology, rhinology, neurotology, skull base surgery, otolaryngology, sleep surgery, endoscopic salivary gland surgery, and facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. The breadth and depth of experience, expertise, and services enables UCSF Benioff Children's to be one of the best otolaryngology departments in the Nation.

We treat the full spectrum of pediatric diseases of the head and neck.

  • Ears: hearing loss, ear infections, chronic ear disease, cholesteatoma
  • Nose: sinus disease, nasal deformities, nasal trauma, nasal obstruction, allergic rhinitis, cystic fibrosis
  • Voice: hypernasal speech, vocal cord nodules, hoarseness, other voice disorders
  • Airway: noisy breathing, diseases of the larynx and trachea
  • Neck: congenital neck masses, head and neck neoplasm
  • Sleep: snoring, sleep apnea, tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, sleep endoscopy
  • Mouth: tongue tie, mucoceles, etc
  • Congenital syndromes that affect the head and neck: Down Syndrome, Pierre Robin, Velocardiofacial syndrome (VCFS), Branchio-otorenal syndrome (BORS), Treacher Collins Syndrome, Apert and Crouzon Syndromes, etc.

  • The Otolaryngology Department offers all pediatric ENT healthcare options, such as our Cochlear Implant Program, audiology services to diagnose and treat hearing loss or impairment, and craniofacial services that bring together panels of nationally-respected specialists from among the hospital’s 30+ pediatric subspecialties.
