Pathology & Laboratory Medicine
The Pathology & Laboratory Medicine team helps diagnose, treat, and monitor illnesses by studying the body's blood, fluids, tissues, and other samples. Accurate diagnoses for any condition depend on the level of expertise of pathologists and clinical laboratory scientists. By offering advanced laboratory services onsite, we're able to administer specialized diagnostic tests and promptly provide detailed information about your child's condition. Since 70% of all healthcare decisions are based on lab results, it is crucial to have confidence in the lab you choose for your children. You can trust the experience and skill of our board-certified pathologists and clinical laboratory scientists. We specialize in children, babies, and teens so you can be confident that our team will work with you to meet the special needs of your child.

Anatomic Pathology Services
Pathology is the study of the nature of disease. The Anatomic Pathology Laboratory provides a full range of pediatric pathology diagnostic services including pediatric surgical pathology, pediatric autopsy, and pediatric cytopathology. Pathologists at Children's Hospital are both investigative researchers looking for the origins of disease and integral members of the patient care team consulting with physicians on biochemical, molecular, and cell biology tests that guide diagnostic choices and treatment strategies.
Clinical Laboratory Services
Clinical Laboratory Science, also called Medical Technology provides laboratory information and services needed for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Clinical laboratory scientists perform a variety of laboratory tests, ensure the quality of the test results, explain the significance of laboratory tests, evaluate new methods and study the effectiveness of laboratory tests..
Because we only treat children, phlebotomists at Children's Hospital Oakland's Clinical Laboratory are experts at drawing blood and collecting samples from infants and children using microtechniques to minimize the amount of blood drawn.
The Clinical Laboratory provides a full range of inpatient and outpatient laboratory testing services:
