About Me

Dr. Kurtis Auguste received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University. He conducted his medical training, internship and neurosurgery residency at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. His research interests have included neural stem cell transplantation for the study of central nervous system migrational disorders and the role of aquaporin water channels in hydrocephalus, seizure propagation, and astroglial migration. He was named the 2006 recipient of the AANS/CNS Hydrocephalus Association Award and the 2007 recipient of the UCSF Naffziger/Harold Rosegay Neurosurgery Resident of the Year Award.

Dr. Auguste was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. His family is from the Caribbean islands of Trinidad & Tobago. He is fluent in Spanish and continues to mentor at-risk youth and minority scholars in his free time. In 2008, he returned from a 1-year fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada to become the Director of the Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery Program at UCSF and Oakland Children’s Hospital. Dr. Auguste specializes in a variety of surgical procedures for epilepsy, including a new laser surgery technique to treat seizures. In addition to the surgical management of pediatric seizure disorders, his practice focuses on general pediatric neurosurgery including the management of complex hydrocephalus, spinal dysraphism, pediatric neuro-oncology, pediatric neurotrauma, and craniofacial disorders.
