About Me

Dr. Matsunaga is a senior clinician who directs the clinical programs for Hemostasis, Thrombosis, and General Hematology -- particularly the bone marrow failure and spherocytosis programs. She is Program Director of the Region IX Hemophilia Treatment Center and 340B Program at BCHO. She is also the regional consultant for lead poisoning. Dr. Matsunaga, an active investigator in several trials and registries including severe chronic neutropenia international registry, American Thrombosis and Hemostasis Network (ATHN), Universal Data Collection for Hemophilia, My Life Our Future, multicenter factor XIII, epidemiology of Diamond Blackfan Anemia, genetic determinants of vWD, and others. In collaboration with Dr. Singer, she has recently initiated new trials including rivaroxaban for thrombosis in children, rivaroxaban pharmacokinetics, and the FORWARD study evaluating recombinant long-acting factor products, and others.

Dr. Matsunaga is a mentor to interns, residents, and fellows in hematology. Her program has been nationally recognized and includes rotating physicians locally and nationally. She also oversees pediatric hematology quality control in the satellite programs.
