Our 2020 High School Summer Program is now full and we are no longer accepting new applications.

Our High School Summer Volunteer Program offers 16 and 17-year-old students the opportunity to volunteer in a hospital setting, provide comfort to our patients and gain valuable experience. To be considered for our summer program, you are required to:

  1. Be between 16 – 17 years old and enrolled in high school or home schooled
  2. Commit to serve once a week for a 3-4 hour shift.1 six-week session: June 17th –July 26 or July 22-August 30th

How to Apply:

  1. Complete a volunteer application
  2. Submit (2) reference forms
  3. Submit a “pre-screening” essay between February 1 - 28 telling us why you want to volunteer at the hospital it should be between 800-1000 words typed." Email essays to volunteers@ucsf.edu. Sorry, we do not accept late submissions.
  4. Attend a video conference interview. Interviews will be conducted between March 11 - 31. Check our website in January for more details on the interview process.

If you are selected, you will be notified no later than Friday, April 13th and then be required to complete:

  1. Health Screening
  2. Orientation Quiz

    –Once we receive all of your completed documents, we will contact you to discuss placement, department specific training, and start date.

  3. At the conclusion of the high school summer program, submit a “Reflections on your summer volunteer experience, 800-1000 words typed” essay

Upon successful completion the summer volunteer program, you will receive a certificate and a verification letter. Plus you may be able to continue volunteering during fall term, schedule permitting.
