Our Mission

Our mission — the reason we exist — is Caring, Healing, Teaching and Discovering.

Our Vision

Our vision — what we want to be — is to be the best provider of health care services, the best place to work and the best environment for teaching and research.

We're UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland and everything we do is focused on making kids better. And when all you do is help kids get better, something wonderful happens: they make you better.

We, the doctors, nurses, and other specialists at Children's Hospital Oakland, work exclusively with kids every day. We see the subtle things others could miss. We can find where it hurts when a child is too young to tell.

And we know it takes more than advanced pediatric medicine to speed a child’s recovery. It takes an entire organization focused on all of a child’s needs. Including the need to simply be a child. That’s why, along with some of the world’s most sophisticated treatment and technology, you’ll also see an art therapist working with kids at their bedsides, a pediatric anesthesiologist using toys to relax a 3-year-old before surgery, and an endless array of other comforts for children. Not just because we care to empathize with them, but also because we understand the science behind giving them a sense of well-being.

We can do all this because we are a 100% dedicated to the health of your child.

That means all of our resources, and our entire Bay Area team, are focused on kids, and only kids. It's why so many children get better here. And why you would want to ensure your child has access to this level of care, should it ever be needed.
